WIC – Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children
WIC helps supply nutritious foods so that pregnant women, new moms and young children eat well, learn about nutrition and stay healthy. WIC helps children reach their full growth potential and WIC children enter school ready to learn and show better cognitive performance.

WIC applicants must meet eligibility requirements under the following Categorical, Residential, Income, and Nutrition Risk considerations…
Who is eligible?
Categorical
- Pregnant women
- Women who are breastfeeding a baby under 1 year of age
- Women who have had a baby in the past six months
- Children under the age of 5
Residential
- Applicants must live in Missouri to receive Missouri WIC. Applicants can choose to pick up in any county of their choice.
Income
- Applicants must have gross income at or below the standards in the table below.
- WIC counts all of the members of a household.
- Pregnant women are counted as two family members.
- Applicants who receive Medicaid, MC+, Food Stamps or TANF are automatically income eligible.

Nutritional Risk
- WIC participants height and weight are measured and blood work is taken to check for anemia at certification appointments every 6 months.
- WIC participants meet with a Nutritionist for a health and nutrition screening to determine nutritional risk. There are two main categories of nutritional risk:
- medically-based risks such as a history of prematurity, underweight, or iron deficiency anemia, and
- nutrition-based risks such as poor eating habits that can lead to poor nutritional and health status.

Nutritious Foods
WIC participants receive checks to purchase specific foods at the grocery store each month which are designed to supplement their diets. WIC food is high in one or more of the following nutrients:

| Different food packages are provided for different categories of participants. WIC foods include |
- Milk
- Eggs
- Cheese
- Juice
- Cereal
- Beans

- Peas
- Tuna
- Carrots
- Peanut Butter
- Infant Formula

Nutrition Education
WIC participants receive individual nutrition counseling and nutrition classes.
Breastfeeding Support
Butler County Health Department encourages families to breastfeed and offers the following breastfeeding services:
- Prenatal breastfeeding classes
- Breastfeeding Peer Counselor program
- International Board Certified Lactation Consultant
- Double electric breastpump loan program
Referrals
WIC refers clients to a variety of health and social services agencies and programs. Examples include: Medicaid, MC+, Food Stamps, Prenatal care, Medical and Dental Services, Family Planning, Immunizations, Head Start, Early Childhood, First Steps.
Contact WIC
Call Butler County Health Department to schedule an appointment. Late night clinics offered twice a month. Satellite clinics offered in Qulin and Neelyville. Applicants will need to bring the following to the certification appointment:
- Proof of Identity – Bring a current, valid photo ID such as a driver’s license, work/school ID card, military card or passport.
- Proof of Residency – Bring the most recent utility bill, monthly rent payment, mortgage payment, or junk mail that has your name and address on it.
- Proof of Income – Bring the most recent employment/unemployment pay stubs, DFS benefits award letter, Medicaid card, MC+ card, or EBT card. If self employed bring a copy of your federal tax form.
- Shot Record/ Crib Card – Bring shot record for infants 2 months and older. Bring crib card from the hospital for infants yonger than 2 months.
